Lunário Reimagined: A Polyphonic Poem
In 2003, Doutora. Maria Otília Pereira Lage, then the Director of SDP-BC at the Polytechnic Institute of Porto, approached me with an exciting project. My role was to design the cover and illustrate four chapters of a book. This book, Lunário Poema Polifónico, would be a theatrical adaptation by playwrighter Jorge Palinhos.
Synopsis
"Lunário Poema Polifónico" adapts Al Berto's work "Lunário" into a polyphonic poem. To retain the original's poetic intensity, the author meticulously cut and pasted words and phrases from "Lunário," supplementing them with images and excerpts from other works by Al Berto, especially "Equinócios da Tangerina" and "Filme da Rua Zero L." He describes his process as borrowing from other authors and filling gaps with his own words, creating an impression that the poet's ghost guided his hand, word by word.
