Historic Books, Modern Tech and a 2004 Tale Told Visually by a Book Designer, Illustrator and Photographer
In 2004, Doutora Maria Otília Pereira Lage, then the Director of SDP-BC at the Polytechnic Institute of Porto, approached me with an exciting and very demanding project. My role was to design the cover, create illustrations, and take specialized photographs for a catalog of ancient books dating from the 16th to the 18th centuries. Additionally, I was tasked with learning and operating the specialized scanning machines necessary for this project.
Synopsis
Publicizing a bibliographic heritage of great merit as featured in this catalog is an act of rescuing memory, fulfilling the duty of higher education institutions that currently oversee its care. Presenting a catalog of this type requires us, on the other hand, to emphasize that it represents a source of enrichment and value for its intended audiences and for the libraries of the Polytechnic Institute of Porto, which, through their invisible work, have brought it to life. This reference publication is characterized by pragmatism and functionality, as documented in the respective summary.
